(Image) -  During a conversation with Revolver , Melvins frontman Buzz Osborne talked about Nirvana and the late Kurt Cobain, remembering how he took Kurt to his first gig. Osborne and Melvins are promoting their 25th studio album, titled "Five Legged Dog." When the interviwer said, "You took Kurt Cobain to his first show, which was a Black Flag gig. What was that night like?", Buzz replied (transcribed by UG): "It was a hall that maybe held three or four hundred people, maybe 500 if it was packed - it was not packed. It was a Black Flag [1984's] 'Slip Ut In' tour. "We were friends with Kurt and had been for a long time, and I've been going into weird music for a lot longer than that. "The beginning musically, for me, was all on my own. There were no record stores where I lived, there were no radio stations that would play anything weird. "I discovered all that through pictures and magazines and ordered the records through ma

(Image) - During an appearance on Absolute Radio , Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer, Dave Grohl, looked back on his time with Kurt Cobain and co. in the wake of the 30th anniversary of the band's monumental 1991 record "Nevermind." When asked, "Does it feel like 30 years ago, or was it just like yesterday?", Grohl replied (transcribed by UG): "It feels like a lifetime ago. I feel like I lived a few lifetimes since then. But I don't necessarily feel any different than I did. "I was 22 when that record came out. I feel 22 until I look in the mirror and go, 'Oh, I'm not 22 anymore...' "To me, Nirvana really was three people with some instruments that made a big noise, and we drove around in vans, and we played in clubs, and we did things like that. "And then it became something else. "I look at Nirvana much differently than someone else might. It's become such a big part of popular culture. Everywhere

Dave Grohl opens up on crazy incident which led to Foo Fighters formation after Kurt Cobain’s death

Imagen
(Image) - oo Fighters’ Dave Grohl has revealed what exactly led to the formation of the band after the death of Nirvana star Kurt Cobain. The legendary musician joined Sophie Ellis-Bextor, comedian Greg Davies and Paralympian Kadeena Cox on the famous red chairs. Dave explained: ‘The three and half years I was in the band was a lifetime. So much changed in that time, not just in music but in the world. ‘It was a beautiful time, a renaissance, and an emotional awaking when people felt it was okay to be themselves. It was amazing.’ However, when his bandmate Cobain died in 1994, this prompted a huge change for Dave as he struggled to know what to do next. He continued: ‘When Kurt died, and it all ended I didn’t know what to do with my life. ‘I couldn’t listen to music anymore because it hurt too much so I tried to escape and went to Ireland to soul search,’ he added, much to the delight of the show’s host. It was during this trip he experienced a moment which prompted him to make a hug

Dave Grohl retraces his life-affirming path from Nirvana to Foo Fighters

Imagen
(Image) - Dave Grohl  still remembers the first punk show he ever saw: Naked Raygun, in Chicago around 1982, at a little corner bar across from Wrigley Field called The Cubby Bear. "They knew four chords and the singer was, like, on top of my head, and I was against the stage, and it was life-affirming, because I thought ... 'Oh my God! This is what I want to do,' " the Foo Fighters frontman says. There was an undercurrent of anger to the punk scene back then, but Grohl says he wasn't fueled by rage. Rather, he describes himself as a hyperactive kid who loved life and wanted to play the drums — he started out by pounding pillows on his bedroom floor. "This was that hyperactive energy that I had my entire life, but I was kind of channeling all of that into the way that I played drums," he says. "It felt so good." Grohl eventually dropped out of high school in Virginia to join the band Scream, spending a few years on the road with the group.

  - The amended lawsuit also unearths some journal entries allegedly made by Cobain about his vision for the album cover Amendments to the lawsuit filed against Nirvana by Spencer Elden, which alleges the cover art of their iconic album ‘Nevermind’ amounted to “commercial child pornography”, alleges that cover subject Elden was also styled and photographed as  Playboy  founder Hugh Hefner. Lawyer Robert Lewis, representing the now 30-year-old Elden, filed the amended suit on Monday (November 22), which was obtained by  Digital Music News . The suit maintains the original claims, filed in August, that the defendants “failed to take reasonable steps to protect Spencer and prevent his widespread sexual exploitation and image trafficking”. Defendants in the case are Nirvana, the late Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, photographer Kirk Weddle, designer Robert Fisher, the labels responsible for the release of ‘Nevermind’ – Universal Music, MCA Records and Geffen Records – and Court

Melvins reveal why they fired Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain as their producer: ‘He was a mess’

Imagen
(Image) -Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain may have been Melvins’ biggest fan, but that didn’t stop Buzz Osborne canning him as their producer. Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain and Melvins’ frontman Buzz Osborne may have been good pals since their teenage years growing up in small towns in Washington state, but their friendship was put under considerable strain when Cobain was drafted in to assist with the writing of Melvin’s major label debut,  Houdini …  and subsequently fired from the project, at Osborne’s insistence. “He was a mess, drug-wise,” Osborne now admits, revealing why he canned his band’s most high-profile supporter, in a feature on the making of the album in the new issue of  Metal Hammer . The significance of Melvins in Nirvana’s story can hardly be overstated: Kurt Cobain first met his future bandmate Krist Novoselic at the Melvins’ practise in Aberdeen, Washington, and Cobain’s first band, Fecal Matter, featured Melvins drummer Dale Crover, with Osborne later signing up to play bass. Why It's Too Simple to Blame Kurt Cobain's Suicide on Celebrity Alone

Imagen
BY   JENNIFER LATSON  M any have blamed Kurt Cobain’s suicide — on this day, April 8, in 1994 — on the harsh glare of the spotlight: an especially brutal force for someone as sensitive as the Nirvana frontman. LIFE Books described a tribute commemorating the 20th anniversary of Cobain’s death, last year, as “the story of a young man who buckled beneath the weight of enormous, unwanted fame.” In the book’s introduction, editor Bob Sullivan notes that “at the apex of Nirvana’s success, [Cobain] said he wished he could quit that gig and be a sideman in his wife’s band, Hole.” But casting fame as the villain in Cobain’s undoing would be an oversimplification. Whether or not he recognized all that it entailed, celebrity was his goal from the time he founded Nirvana. “He definitely wanted to be famous,” the band’s former manager, Danny Goldberg, told  USA Today  in 2004. “He worked assiduously with tremendous clarity to achieve that. He designed the band’s T-shirts, commented on detailed a

FBI Unearths Kurt Cobain File

The FBI has released its archived records related to late  Nirvana  frontman  Kurt Cobain , as  Rolling Stone  points out. The 10-page file contains letters from two individuals who asked the bureau to investigate the rockstar’s 1994  death by suicide , believing foul play to have been involved. “The police who took up the case were never very serious in investigating it as a murder,” one of the individuals wrote. The other letter, dated September 24, 2003, reads, “I believe a great injustice might have been committed in the case of Kurt Cobain.” Later, the person wrote, “I’m writing you in hopes for your help to press for a reexamination of Mr. Cobain’s death. Millions of fans around the world would like to see the inconsistencies surrounding the death cleared up once and for all. It is sad to think that an injustice of this nature can be allowed in the United States.” The FBI file also contains several letters that the bureau sent back to individuals, informing them that the FBI does

Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic Still Has Dreams About Kurt Cobain

Imagen
Krist Novoselic  shares an interesting phenomena going on in his brain. Twenty years after the death of   Kurt Cobain , Novoselic still dreams of his deceased bandmate. Speaking to the Young Turks, Krist Novoselic spoke about his dreams of Cobain while reminiscing about the Nirvana frontman. “I think, looking back, I was just confused," Novoselic begins. "It took me a lot of years to work through that, I tried to do the best I could. We were at our best when we were playing. We liked to rehearse, we liked to make songs, and play together. That’s what we did best, that’s when we were happy. I have dreams about Kurt. I’m so happy to see him in a dream, like, ‘Oh my god, it’s so good to see you.’ Then we’re always like, ‘Okay, let’s go play.' We’re always going to go play music, so there’s some kind of connection there, which is good. That’s what it’s all about.” Speaking of Nirvana members, Novoselic also spoke about how Dave Grohl came to join the band. "It was in Nor

Dave Grohl says Kurt Cobain once considered replacing him in Nirvana

Imagen
Dave Grohl opened up about his relationship with Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain in   a recent interview with Vulture . Despite their close bond, the Foo Fighters frontman revealed that Cobain once considered replacing him with a different drummer in the legendary punk-rock band. Grohl said they were on the road to Los Angeles with bassist Krist Novoselic to start rehearsals for the "In Utero" tour, the band's third and final album, released on September 13, 1993. "I was sitting a few rows ahead of Kurt and Krist. I could hear Kurt saying, 'I think we need a drummer that's more rudimental, along the lines of Dan Peters,' who was the guy they almost hired when I joined the band," Grohl said. Peters had originally been recruited by Cobain and Novoselic to drum for Nirvana, but he was already a member of the Seattle band Mudhoney, so Grohl got the gig instead. "I was really upset because I thought things were OK," Grohl continued. "I talked
